For wrinkle reduction I use dermal fillers; products such as Restylane or Juvederm. Both give reliable and reproducible results lasting for between 3 and 6 months.
One of the main constituents of these fillers is hyaluronic acid. This is a naturally occurring substance and is a precursor for collagen. This is what gives the skin firmness and structure. Once synthesised in a laboratory, it minimises potential allergies. Results after injection will be evident almost immediately.
Where to target wrinkle reduction
There are various focus areas for wrinkle reduction. Most suited to injection of fillers are the deep nasolabial and marionette lines around the mouth. Akin to this are the deep lines between the eyebrows; with most fine lines subtly refined. A combination of Botox and Fillers can sometimes required to achieve a natural contour. The use of both is dependent on any individual and what is required to achieve the greatest result.
Downtime and side effects
Downtime and side effects are easily treatable. Numbing cream can be applied 20 minutes before procedure and cosmetic ice gel packs can be liberally used. On the occurrence that a patient does experience this, it is limited to little swelling and occasional bruising; both are quick to settle. Further massage can reduce and assist persistent swelling. In the very unlikely event that there is an uneven finish that doesn’t respond to massage, I can use a product that dissolves the filler away.
